Germany National Football Team sacks Hansi Flick

Germany's football federation (DFB) made the announcement that Hansi Flick had been fired on Sunday, one day after a 4-1 loss to Japan made the team's prospects for hosting the 2019 European Championship even more bleak.

Director Rudi Völler will be one of three coaches sharing control of the upcoming match, an exhibition against France on Tuesday in Dortmund, according to the DFB.

Germany has lost each of its last five games and was eliminated from the World Cup last year's group round.

Flick declared that he wanted to stay as coach and believed that he was the best candidate for the position after the team's defeat against Japan. Sunday's announcement followed his leading the team to a public training session attended by fans.

With Bayern Munich, Flick won the Champions League in 2020, and the following year he was appointed Germany's president. Despite not playing any of the elite clubs in Europe during his first eight victories, he has only managed four victories in his last 17 games.

Ilkay Gündogan, the captain of Germany, supported Flick in staying on after the match against Japan but lamented the team's severe lack of togetherness.

"Many of our participants are engaged in inner battles with themselves. Gündogan told the chief broadcaster, "There is no confidence, there is no understanding for the timing, for the appropriate decisions on the pitch.

France, who have won all five of their Euro 2024 qualifying games without giving up a goal since losing the World Cup final on penalties to Argentina last year, presents a difficult challenge for the temporary coaching staff.

Julian Nagelsmann might be a potential long-term replacement. Prior to Thomas Tuchel's replacement by Bayern in March, he served as Flick's successor there. Germany's next match is against the United States on October 14 followed by Mexico four days later.

Now that we are in charge, we must take action in order to fulfill the difficult and ambitious role of hosts that we hope to play at the Euro the following year. The German supporters have a right to expect much from us, according to Völler.
